Interactive Poverty Simulation Hosted by Economics and Social Work Class and Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank

Whether you know it or not, you interact with people in living in poverty every day. Poverty can affect anyone, from the adjunct professor teaching your class, your cashier at the grocery store, the person serving you your food, or the family you see on the bus. With almost 50 million people living in the United States living in poverty, it is becoming more crucial for people of all backgrounds and professions to understand the hardships of those who are struggling to make ends meet. Please join us on April 16 at 6 p.m. for an interactive poverty simulation in partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, where we will be led on a realistic journey to experience poverty first-hand. Attendees will be assigned the roles of families with income at or below the poverty line and will understand the struggle to provide basic necessities (food, shelter, healthcare, etc.) while facing life’s circumstances. This event will be held in the ballroom of the William Pitt Union (3959 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15260).
