April 2023 Afternoon of Recognition

Step 1. Apply for Graduation
Graduation is not an automatic process – All students eligible for graduation must submit an application to graduate. Deadlines and HOW TO apply are outlined in the drop downs at the bottom of this page.
Students graduating in June and August 2023 who wish to attend the Afternoon of Recognition celebration MUST apply for graduation before they RSVP for the celebration.
Step 2. RSVP for the School of Social Work Afternoon of Recognition for April, June, and August 2023 graduates
The School of Social Work will be hosting an Afternoon of Recognition on April 30, 2023, at 5pm at Solider and Sailors Memorial Hall. This is a celebratory event that is exclusive to Social Work students and their families to recognize this important milestone. We invite all students who plan to graduate in both the spring term and the summer term (June and August) to join us on April 30th. We will not be hosting a separate summer event. Registration is required for the Afternoon of Recognition, RSVP in the drop down below.
Step 3. Order Regalia - optional
Business attire is required, although many students and all the faculty will be wearing regalia. Academic regalia may be purchased at the University Store on Fifth. Spring 2023 ordering will be updated in the coming weeks. Please visit this website to order regalia.
Step 4. BASW Students Only
Please complete the University senior survey by February 3rd.
Step 5. University Commencement and Lavender Graduation
- University commencement is planned by the Office of Special Events. Please see commencement.pitt.edu for further information, or they can be contacted at gradinfo@pitt.edu, 412-624-7100.

HOW TO APPLY:
Complete the online graduation application by logging into my.pitt.edu and follow these instructions.- If you have questions about the online graduation application, please reach out to the Registrar's Office à graduation@registrar.pitt.edu or 412-624-7627
- If you’ve applied for graduation and need to postpone, please reach out to sswgrads@pitt.edu
- Students are responsible for reapplying for graduation in the subsequent semester they expect to graduate. Students are not automatically rolled over onto future graduation rosters.
- BASW students only: Please complete the University senior survey by Friday, February 3rd https://pitt.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1UiPpetAUoIDNZ4
- MSW students only: Your MSW Curriculum Guide, which is to be reviewed with your academic advisor prior to submission, must be emailed to sswgrads@pitt.edu at the beginning of your final semester.
- When saving your Curriculum Guide, please name the file:
- Last Name-First Name-Grad Date-DP or COSA
- Ex: Rogers-Fred-Apr23-DP or Rogers-Fred-Apr23-COSA
- Your name on your graduation application must be identical to the way it appears in PeopleSoft. You will be required to provide legal documentation to change your name. Acceptable forms of documentation are:
- Birth Certificate
- Marriage Certificate
- Divorce Decree
- Formal Court Order
- Please note that if you are a joint degree student; you must also submit an online application to the other degree-granting program (i.e. Law School, GSPH, etc.).

- Diplomas, Transcripts, and Enrollment Verifications

Diplomas
- You must be in good financial standing with the University to receive your diploma.
- To ensure your diploma is routed to the correct address, you can update your Graduation Address through PeopleSoft up to one month prior to the end of your graduation term/session.
- Diplomas will be mailed out at no charge approximately 6-8 weeks after the end of your term of graduation.
- Allow 30 days from the advertised ship date to consider the diploma lost for domestic mail, 90 days for international delivery.
- To declare a diploma lost, please contact graduation@registrar.pitt.edu.
- All discrepancies should be brought to the attention of the Office of the University Registrar immediately.
Transcripts and Enrollment Verifications
- Official Transcripts are requested through the Office of the University Registrar. Visit their website for electronic and hard copy transcripts and enrollment verifications.
Education Verification
- If you are applying for social work licensure (LSW, LMSW) prior to graduation you will need to have an Education Verification form completed by the School of Social Work Academic Registration and Records Manager. Please contact Susanna Cammarata at suc112@pitt.edu with the applicant portion of your form completed.
- If you have obtained employment prior to graduation and your employer is requesting education verification, please reach out of the SSW Academic Registration and Records Manager, Susanna Cammarata at suc112@pitt.edu
- You will need to provide:
- Your employers HR contact information – name, title, address, & email.
- Any specific additional information your new employer is requesting.
- Your tentative start date.
- Once your final semester grades are posted and your graduation status has been certified, we will provide:
- A formal letter written on official letterhead indicating you have met departmental requirements, your degree(s) earned, the official date for your degree confirmation, and the date official transcripts with degrees awarded will be available, signed by a Dean of the School of Social Work.
