Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work! I am thrilled to be joining the school as it begins its second century of excellence in education, research and practice.
For a long time, I have admired Pitt’s ability to tackle society’s most vexing problems by developing and supporting excellent practitioners, generating cutting-edge research, and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary and community partners to create and implement innovative solutions. The school has framed its mission to “empower people, lead organizations, and grow communities.” I look forward to all of the ways that we can embody this mantra in our collective efforts to improve practice, expand equality, and create a revitalized society that inspires and reflects the best in all of us!
The school is built upon a strong synergy of education, research, and collaboration. The productivity, innovation, and impact of the faculty are exemplary. Its highly-regarded educational programs (BASW, MSW, PhD) consistently produce excellent practitioners, researchers and leaders.
The school’s world-class centers and programs -- on race and social problems, child welfare, mental health, and aging -- advance discourse, knowledge, and practice on the critical challenges facing society. The school’s community-engaged efforts are pushing the envelope by working collaboratively with partners in Pittsburgh and beyond to develop, implement, and evaluate the changes we want to see and be in the world.
It is truly an exciting time to be at Pitt. We welcome you to join us in our journey!
