University Honors College

The BASW Program now offers two new options, a Joint Degree and an Honors Distinction, both in partnership with Pitt's David C. Frederick Honors College (FHC). These two options are in addition to the existing Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) option.  

Joint Degree: 3.25 

Pitt Honors Joint Degree Program: This program offers participating students the opportunity to complete a sequence of UHC-designated courses, and an Honors designation on a student’s diploma, jointly awarded from the BASW and UHC. The joint degree in Social Work creates opportunities for Social Work majors to complete the BASW requirements and to engage in scholarly work towards a more rigorous baccalaureate degree traditionally reserved for the graduate level.

 

  • Program requirements:
  • Minimum GPA: 3.25 
  • 18 credits (6 courses) UHC approved courses
  • 9 credits from our BASW program. All of our honors courses are required*

*The directed study in research SWRES 2023 can be substituted for either Child Welfare SOCWRK 1079 or Intro SOCWRK 1000

  • Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSWS) (3 crs.)** (Any course with a GSWS class attribute)
  • Human Biology (3 crs.)

  • Religion/Spirituality (3 crs.)** (Any course with a Religious Studies class attribute)
  • Sociology (3 crs.)**
  • Statistics (3 crs.)

3 of the 9 credits can be any course with an honors designation

Honors Distinction: 3.25

 

Honors Distinction: This program offers participating students the opportunity to complete a sequence of FHC-designated courses, recognized by an Honors transcript distinction.

Program requirements:

  • Minimum GPA: 3.25 
  • 9 credits (3 courses) UHC approved courses
  • 3 experiential credits (The student will take the directed honors research study (SWRES 2023). The student will be required to do the directed research study along with the honors research course.)   

We require SOCWRK 1020 Honors Research (under 9 UHC courses)
