Dr. Shaun Eack's work highlighted by the Department of Defense

Dr. Shaun Eack's, and his Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Nancy J. Minshew, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, work on autism was highlighted again this year by the Department of Defense with a full-page write-up in their Autism Research Project report (page 7).The purpose of Dr. Eack's project, “A Randomized Trial of Cognitive Enhancement Therapy for Adults with Autism,” is to conduct a randomized-controlled trial of Cognitive Enhancement Therapy (CET) in adults with high function autism spectrum disorders. Specific aims are to evaluate the efficacy of CET for improving cognitive and behavioral outcomes in autism spectrum disorders, to examine the 6-month post-treatment durability of CET effects in adults with autism, and to examine the impact of CET on neurobiologic processes and brain connectivity in these disorders. This is the second year in a row that the DoD has highlighted the study as a model of what they have funded and want to fund.
