Student wins international scholarship

MSW student and SEC President Daisia Williams was awarded the "George F. and Mary Ann McGunagle Scholarship" through the Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh. She was awarded $5,000 to travel abroad to Uganda, Africa, where she plans to go in Summer 2021. She will be working with the organization Bright Kids Uganda, whose mission is to rescue vulnerable and economically disadvantaged children from their dire circumstances in which they are currently living through the provision of shelter, home environment, love, education, and medical support. The project she proposed, which was accepted, was developing a transitional program for youth aging out of the orphanage. The program would provide life-skills, job-training, housing resources, and higher education assistance. The goal of the program is to provide youth in transition with the necessary resources needed to become a self-sufficient adult.
