Professor named to social work Academy

David E. Epperson Chair John Wallace has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (the “Academy”). The Academy is an honorific society of distinguished scholars and practitioners dedicated to achieving excellence in the field of social work and social welfare through high-impact work that advances social good. Dr. Wallace has dedicated his life and work to racial and economic justice. As a founder of the Homewood Children’s Village, Wallace has devoted his work to community-based participatory research that aims to effect immediate change in the lives of some of our society’s most vulnerable members. His most recent project is Pitt-Assisted Communities & Schools (PACS), a program under the faculty leadership of Dr. Wallace and Dr. James Huguley. PACS mobilizes University of Pittsburgh resources to enrich the lives of children, youth, and families, and advances the university’s commitment to transformative teaching, research, and community service. The induction ceremony will be held at the Society for Social Work (SSWR) on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., followed by a reception.
