Assistant Professor Leah Jacobs’ project “Building a Classroom without Walls: Teaching Neighborhood Assessment with Google Earth,” has been awarded a 2018 Innovation in Education Award from Provost Patricia E. Beeson and the Advisory Council on Instructional Excellence. The project will develop and test a technology-enhanced course that utilizes Google Earth Pro (an application that displays data and images via a virtual globe). The course will utilize Google Earth as a teaching aid and social work practice tool. Students will learn to use Google Earth to conduct community assessments, inform intervention development, and communicate assessment results to stakeholders.
