New BASW Program’s Joint Degree and Honors Distinction!

The BASW Program now offers two new options, a Joint Degree, and an Honors Distinction, both in partnership with the University Honors College (UHC). These two options are in addition to the existing Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) option.

The Pitt Honors Joint Degree Program requires students to have a minimum 3.25 GPA, successfully complete 18 credits (6 UHC approved courses), and 9 credits from the BASW program.  This Joint Degree program offers participating students the opportunity to complete a sequence of UHC-designated courses, and an Honors designation on a student’s diploma, jointly awarded from the BASW and UHC. This joint degree in Social Work creates opportunities for Social Work majors to complete the BASW requirements and to engage in scholarly work towards a more rigorous baccalaureate degree traditionally reserved for the graduate level.

The Honors Distinction requires students to have a minimum 3.25 GPA, successfully complete 9 credits (3 UHC approved courses) and 3 experiential credits. This Honors Distinction offers participating students the opportunity to complete a sequence of UHC-designated courses, recognized by an Honors transcript distinction. The Honors Distinction is a less rigorous option yet it remains as a challenging opportunity for students to experience honors courses with more flexibility.
