Daniel Jacobson López

Dr. Daniel Jacobson López is a T32 Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology in the Graduate School of Public Health and a is CEED Diversity Scholar at the Institute for Clinical Research Education and the Clinical and Translation Science Institute, at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the first Latinx PhD graduate at Pitt School of Social Work.

His primary research focuses on the sexual assault of gay Latino and/or Black male sexual assault survivors.  He also researches violence against gay Black and Latino men, LGBT individuals, and the effects of COVID-19 on people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).  

Dr. Jacobson López is currently working on two studies on COVID-19. One project is a national NIH funded study (MACS/WIHS Cohort Study), focused the effects of COVID-19 on people living with HIV/AIDS. Another project is focused on the psycho-social effects of social distancing and shelter-in place on residents in Allegheny County.  He is excited to begin a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor at Boston University. Most recently, he led a research team focused on violence against Black LGBT young adults.  Lastly, in his position at Chair of Diversity and Inclusion for the University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association, he has been creating and hosting various initiatives focused on addressing racism and highlighting postdocs of color at Pitt and within academia.

His advice is to become actively involved in research and advocacy efforts at the University of Pittsburgh.  He also encourages everyone to actively advocate for people of color, LGBT folks, and religious minorities at Pitt and to remain true to their passion
