Doctoral student wins award

Valerie Hruschak, PhD Candidate, recently won an early career investigator award which is a grant funded by the American Pain Society (APS) and Mayday Fund, the METER (MEasurement Tool Evaluation Resource) initiative. The goal of this project is to create, review, and maintain in a systematic manner, a web-based electronic resource of seminal and state-of-the-science pain measures useful for clinical practice, research, and quality improvement. Measures may be patient-reported, observational, and/or neurophysiological in nature. End-users of the measures would include patients, clinicians, and research professionals, as well as healthcare administrators and policymakers who can access them and be able to have a clear understanding of what each tool measures, how it should be properly used, and how to interpret results. Ms. Hruschak was awarded $3,000 and a complimentary APS membership, will be committing one year of service to this project and will attend the APS annual meeting and present a review of the measurement tools contributed to the METER.
