Center on Race and Social Problems Fellows Program

The Center on Race and Social Problems’ Fellows Program is designed to provide internship opportunities for Social Work Students who are committed to working on issues of racial justice.  Students chosen for the program will fulfill their internship placement at the Homewood Children’s Village, a setting that will give them an in-depth look at how children’s academic and behavioral issues are related to poverty and crime in their neighborhoods as well as to problems in their families and homes.

Eligibility Requirements and Responsibilities Once in the Program:

  • Master’s Level social work student (either advanced standing or second year students preferred)
    • Good Academic Standing
    • No history of criminal activities or problems obtaining clearances
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others
  • Commitment to participate in evaluation of this educational model
  • Involvement with CRSP Research Advisory Panels (RAP Groups)
  • Willingness to fulfill field placement with an organization providing services in a disadvantaged neighborhood
  • Presentation of project to students, faculty, staff and university personnel

Application Process and Timeline:

  • Complete and submit application and accompanying documents by April 30 to

  • Complete and submit the Field Education Request for MSW Concentration Field Placement 
  • Selection process, placement interview (mid-May)
  • Award letters to students by end of May
  • Acceptance of placement by student in early June
  • Orientation to CRSP in early September

  2. Please submit your application as ONE PDF document (do not sent each page as a separate document).  Document should include:
