Alex Fixler
Alex Fixler is a doctoral student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. She holds an MSW from Tulane University, and a BA in literature from New College of Florida.
Prior to beginning the doctoral program, she worked in a variety of case management positions, including as a school social worker, a Permanent Supportive Housing case manager, and a substance use counselor. Alex was also involved in research work during and after graduate school. She received an independent research grant from the Social Security Administration to investigate early intervention programming for Major Depressive Disorder, served as a policy intern for the juvenile public defenders' office in New Orleans, and worked as a data analyst for a county-wide food bank in Florida.
Alex's research interests include transformative justice and substance use harm reduction.
