Pitt Social Work Engages in Changemaking Dialogue at "Inclusive Voices" Event

On Friday, September 19th, Inclusive Voices returned to the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown for its 17th year. PACE’s signature annual luncheon brings together leaders from diverse backgrounds, industries, and experiences for powerful conversations that inspire understanding, collaboration, and change. Pitt Social Work was a proud co-sponsor for this event.

Instead of a traditional keynote, guests are seated at round tables with a Conversationalist (a local leader, innovator, or changemaker) who shares their personal story and insights in an intimate, engaging format. This approach fosters authentic dialogue, breaks down barriers and creates meaningful connections between people who might not otherwise meet.

We were proud to have faculty, staff and students from Pitt Social Work in attendance: Dr. Aliya Durham, Dr. Alicia Melnick, Aniah Brewer, Sandra Goya Herrera, Dr. HyungJik “Daniel” Lee, Dr. Yodit Betru, Dr. Suzanne Pritzker, and Dr. Alexus Brown.

Here are some reflections from members of the Pitt School of Social Work:

Dr. Alexus Brown: "This is my second year attending Inclusive Voices. I had an excellent time making unexpected connections and sharing space with other community members as we shared information on maintaining creativity in solution-oriented spaces. We also discussed hardships and problem solving for non-profits in unique climates."

Dr. HyungJik “Daniel” Lee: "In today’s divided society, it was uplifting to see people affirm that inclusion is not passive but an act of justice. Participating in Inclusive Voices reaffirms my belief that equity is born from dialogue, and our role as social workers, is not just to study communities but to create conditions under which all people, especially those traditionally marginalized, can claim their space."
