Professor and Doctoral Program Director Sara Goodkind will occupy the Hallen Endowed Chair, starting on June 1. The Hallen Chair is a tribute to Philip Hallen, long-time president of the Falk Fund and a local and national leader. The Chair is designed to support a faculty member whose teaching and research “…positively advance the broad priorities of the Falk Fund developed under the leadership of Mr. Hallen. These include the recognition and celebration of human diversity; the critical examination of both the causes of and cures for racism, bigotry and prejudice; and the formulation and testing of programs designed to prevent discrimination and to reverse its debilitating effects. It is hoped that some aspect of the Chair holder’s work with be ‘translational’ – presenting at least the possibility of near-term applications in affected communities, particularly minority communities.” Goodkind's conceptual and theoretical work in feminist theory and feminist social work, her long-standing collaborative relationship with Gwen's Girls and other local organizations, and her strong commitment to manifesting and amplifying the connections between research, action, advocacy, and impact all make her an excellent fit with the Hallen Endowed Chair.
