Community and Racial Equity Leadership (CREL) Fellowship Program 2025 | Orientation Recap

The Community and Racial Equity Leadership (CREL) Fellowship Program, led by Dr. Aliya Durham, recently launched its new cohort with an engaging orientation at the Homewood Community Engagement Center. Fellows, faculty, and community partners came together for a day of connection, shared learning, skill building seminars and meaningful discussions.

This year’s orientation also recognized the invaluable support of partner agencies:

  • Bible Center Church/The CHAPEL Project
  • Center on Race and Social Problems (CRSP)
  • Homewood Community Engagement Center
  • Operation Better Block, Inc.
  • YWCA Greater Pittsburgh

The CREL Fellowship provides graduate students with opportunities to learn while working in community-engaged programs, which may also include applied research projects, focused on topics related to race, color, ethnicity, location, and their influence on the quality of life for all Americans. The Fellowship is designed to prepare students traditionally underrepresented in social work, such as first-generation graduates, those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, veterans, LGBTQIA+, and students with disabilities, bridge the gaps between their undergraduate studies with experiences and skills to enter careers in macro practice settings.

Stay tuned for more updates on this impactful program!
