Hyunji received her MSW, with a concentration in social administration, from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration in 2016. She also earned a certificate from the Beatrice Cummings Mayer Program in Violence Prevention at SSA. She received her BA in social work at Kyungpook National University in South Korea.
Hyunji’s primary research interests include healthy biopsychosocial development of children and youth and developmental trajectories of children and youth with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Hyunji is also interested in intervention and prevention strategies for children, youth, and families having experiences of traumatic events, especially child abuse and neglect. She has been currently working on a research project, investigating the roles of sleep problems and traumatic stress in mediating the association between child maltreatment and mental health outcomes in foster youth.
