Rauktis appointed as Children’s Book Editor

Research Associate Professor Mary Beth Rauktis has been appointed as the Children’s Book Editor for the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships published by Taylor and Francis. The journal targets both researchers and practitioners. The book editor generally reviews books that have an intergenerational flavor to them. Many depictions of older adults in literature, the media etc. perpetuate stereotypes (and that historically was common in children’s books). The book review editor hopefully can find books that portray realistic images of these relationships that show the challenges but also the strengths of these relationships in ways that do not perpetuate stereotypes.

Rauktis shares: "I really wanted to be a children's book librarian when I was in high school.  I worked at the Carnegie library and loved it. But I got a scholarship for nursing, so that decided that path. But I used to organize the children's book room at our school flea market.   I look forward to doing my 'research' on this."
