MSW alumnus Jason Van Ness, LSW will be presenting his workshop The Problem with the “Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin” Response to a Child Who Comes out as LGBTQ+ at the 20th Annual Pittsburgh Conference on Child Maltreatment at April 30th at 3pm. The presentation will examine the problematic nature of approaching a child coming out with the response of "Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin." Five arguments are presented as to why this approach is harmful and key implications for the field of social work and social work practice. Attendees will also learn about the current consensus of scientist pertaining to LGBTQ+ identities as well as resources available throughout Allegheny County for families of LGBTQ+ people.
