Free webinar: Compassion Fatigue in a Pandemic: Issues and Strategies for Those that 'Do Care'"

April 28, 2021 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

"Compassion Fatigue in a Pandemic: Issues and Strategies for Those that 'Do Care'" is a free webinar open to the community, in recognition of April's National Child Abuse Prevention month.  This will be held on Wednesday, April 28th from 3-5, via Zoom.

Sponsored by the Trauma-Informed Care and Child Abuse Prevention Month committees of the McKean County Collaborative Board, with support from the Pitt-Bradford MSW Alumni Network, this workshop will host a dialogue from four local care professionals about their work in the past year.  Caring for other people can be a challenging, rewarding calling at any time, but meeting the regular expectations of care work during COVID has brought new insights for Linda Howard of the Bradford Ecumenical Home; Steve Joyce, therapist with the Guidance Center; Aimee Kemick, Kane Are High School nurse; and Rob Klouw, co-pastor of First Presbyterian of Bradford.  Working with individuals, families, communities and colleagues in this past year has stretched the capacities of helping professionals.  For example, assisting others with health and financial anxieties, isolation, depression, and all-around uncertainty becomes more challenging when you may be coping with all of these things in your own family life.  Feeling depleted and weary is a common experience right now for helping professionals in communities across the state.

Prof. Toya Jones, trauma therapist and Associate Professor with the Pitt School of Social Work will provide an overview of compassion fatigue, focusing on its symptoms, dynamics, and coping strategies.
