Digital Inclusion in Our Community

Description: The Greater Pittsburgh Digital Inclusion Alliance (GPDIA) is a community-wide, multi-sector committee of organizations working to cooperatively address equitable access to and use of communication technologies. Several members of the GPDIA Steering Committee will serve as panelists in a community conversation to address the vitally important topic of, “Digital Inclusion in our Community.” Maddie Barnes is the Director of Technology & Evidence-Based Programming at AgeWell at the JCC, which is the accredited senior center within the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh.  AgeWell has expanded their online and in person programming, surrounding basic technology literacy, to address the issue of the digital divide. Current tech-based program offerings include the Virtual Senior Academy, one-on-one tech tutoring, and small in-person internet basics classes. Maddie will speak to the effectiveness and importance of these programs, and the impact they have made on our community. Justin LeWinter is the Adult Services Program Manager at Macedonia FACE, a community-based social service organization. Macedonia FACE advocates for equitable digital access and works to address the digital divide with families and older adults. Justin will speak about the lessons learned during the pandemic and the work ahead. Nicole Mannino Johnson is Special Projects Manager at Literacy Pittsburgh.  She oversees the Digital Skills program which provides free basic computer skill instruction to adults in Allegheny and Beaver counties.  Nicole will discuss learner profiles and approaches for working with adults on basic computer skills. Cassandra Masters (she/her) is the Assistant Director of Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh. Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh brings people of all ages together to rethink how our neighborhoods are built and to advance equity through advocacy, education and innovation. They convene work groups focused on digital access, workforce development, housing, transportation and dementia-friendly initiatives.
