Continuing Education: Working with Clinicians Who have Lost Clients to Suicide

November 8, 2019 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

Clinicians who experience a loss of a client or loved one to suicide may go thru isolation, may have fear of judgment or negative reactions, and may struggle with shame as well as grief and traumatic stress. The statistics are staggering: 1) There is one death by suicide in the US every 12 minutes. (CDC) 2) Suicide takes the lives of over 44,965 Americans every year. (CDC) 3) Only half of all Americans experiencing an episode of major depression receive treatment. (NAMI) 4) An estimated quarter million people each year become suicide survivors (AAS).  This workshop delves into the fragile relationships we as clinicians hold with our clients and explores the topic of suicide of a client in treatment. And the loss of a loved one and the impact on our practice and our professional life as clinicians. The presentation will be enhanced with interactive experientials, hands-on learning tools, small break-out groups, worksheets and videos.
