Anti-Racist Social Work Practice: Insights for Transforming the Profession

Announcing a professional development workshop sponsored by the Pitt School of Social Work, Pitt-Bradford MSW Alumni Network, with support from the Pitt-Bradford Office of Diversity

A panel presentation centering the lived experiences, wisdom, and insights of social workers engaging with what antiracism is and how it informs their work. 

Panelists include:

  • Tammie Deyoe, LCSW-R, Behavioral and Community Services Director at the Seneca Nation Health System
  • Victor Figuereo, Ph.D., LCSW  Assistant Professor, Pitt School of Social Work
  • Alicia Johnson, Ph.D. CWEL Academic Coordinator and Clinical Assistant Professor, Pitt School of Social Work
  • Quincy Stephenson, LSW  Assistant Director and Group Coordinator, Center for Student Wellbeing, Duquesne University

Moderated by Yodit Betru, DSW, LCSW, Director of the MSW Program and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Pitt School of Social Work. 

This workshop will provide attendees the opportunity to critically reflect on their own practice and how they can engage with social work’s commitment to racial justice.  Learning objective topics include:

  • Gaining a better understanding of what anti-racist social work practice is, how it is relevant for everyone, and how it is experienced within the helping relationship
  • Connecting anti-racist practice at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels, acknowledging specific anti-racist interventions and frameworks
  • Identifying challenges, opportunities, and resources related to anti-racist practice
