Student Executive Council - Overview

Overview

The Student Executive Council serves as the voice of the graduate student body in Pitt's School of Social Work and don't see ourselves in a vacuum. If there is something you would like to see brought to the attention of your colleagues, an issue you feel should be addressed, or an event that you'd like to have publicized, please feel free to contact us.

The site provides resources for current, incoming, and prospective students of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work. Things you'll find here include:

Get Involved

The officers of the Student Executive Council are elected annually by the students in Pitt's School of Social Work. They work with the administration on behalf of the student body in activities such as Orientation and the March Career Madness career fair. In addition, SEC hosts other programming that would benefit MSW and doctoral students, including Licensure Preparation programs, a Poverty Simulation, and others! This year we will be hosting the December Recognition for the December graduates of the School of Social Work. See what we have scheduled for the Fall Semester .

Elections are typically held only once per year in November. Information about the elections will be posted as dates and times are set.

Students in the School of Social Work are always welcomed to join with the officers of SEC in putting together events and in working with the administration. Additionally, students are welcomed to attend officer meetings to voice their opinions to SEC, bring an issue to our attention, learn more about the organization, or to just stay informed of current events in the School of Social Work. Monthly open meetings are on Tuesdays at 5pm in room 2309 in the Cathedral of Learning. Contact any of the officers on SEC with ideas or questions.

GPSA (Graduate & Professional Student Assembly)

Another great way to get involved on our Pitt Campus, is to become connected with graduate students at other schools through GPSA. Below is a message from Daniel Jimenez, President of GPSA.

Hello Students in the School of Social Work,

For the past 30 years the Graduate & Professional Student Assembly (GPSA) has been connecting students of Pitt's 14 schools to each other, and to the University of Pittsburgh.  Today, we represent and serve over 10,000 advanced degree seeking students, providing the services and programming outlined below.  GPSA administers half of the graduate student activity fee to provide programming and services to all graduate and professional students, including a popular travel grant program for attending and presenting atconferences, free legal services, and supplemental funds for graduate student organizations. Over the next year we'll be working closely with SEC to address and advocate for your needs.  As your student representatives we help students enjoy the optimal graduate student experience, and to continue the rich tradition that this University offers.  Hail to Pitt!

To get communications, updates, and event invites directly from GPSA, students can follow us on facebook, twitter, or sign up for our email list by emailing pittgpsa@gmail.com
