BASW Club Constitution

Article I: Mission Statement:

The goals of the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) Club shall be:

To promote and to enhance the development of the academic and social aims and interests of the BASW students;

Promote student and community interest in and interaction with the School of Social Work.

Article II: Composition, Election, Appointment and Duties:

Section I

Membership to the BASW Club shall not be limited.

Section II

There shall be four (4) Officers of the BASW Club; one President, one Vice-President, one Secretary, and one Treasurer.Officers shall serve a term of one (1) year. Said officers shall be elected annually on a majority basis through an open election of the spring-term junior class of the School of Social Work, with each student having one (1) vote. Candidates for Officer positions must be registered as BASW students in the School of Social Work. Elections, to be organized by the seated Officers, will be publicized in a timely manner in the School of Social Work and held each year between March 1 and March 15. New Officers will assume their positions on May 1. No Officer may hold more that one position in the BASW Club.There shall be one (1) to two (2) representatives of the fall-term junior class. Said representatives shall be elected annually on a majority basis through an open election of the fall-term junior class of the School of Social Work, with each student having one (1) vote. Candidates for Representative positions must be registered as BASW students in the School of Social Work. Elections, to be organized by the seated BASW Club Officers will be publicized in a timely manner in the School of Social Work and held between September 20 and October 1. These elected representatives will assume their positions immediately upon their election.

Section III

The duties of the Officers shall be as follows: President: will preside at all BASW Club meetings; will call special meetings; will have the power to co-sign all invoices with one other designated Officer; will appoint committees with the approval of the Officers; will meet regularly with Administration and faculty; will call agenda of meetings; and will be an ex-officio member of all committees.Vice President: will assist the president; will preside at BASW Club meetings in the absence of the president; will assume the duties of the president if the president is unable to perform the duties of the office or is unable to complete his/her term in office; will participate with the president at all meetings with the administration and faculty; will aid in planning the agenda for meetings.Secretary: will record and file minutes of all meetings in a timely manner; will distribute minutes to all Officers and Representatives; will maintain a permanent file/data base of all records and documents to be passed onto the next student elected as Secretary.Treasurer: will supervise financial planning under the direction of the president and Vice president; will supervise the budgets of the BASW Club, and maintain a data base of said budgets; will pay all bills as directed by the Officers; will present financial reports as the Officers may direct.

Section IV

The duties of the Junior Class Representative shall be:

To contribute information to the BASW Club which will provide an understanding of the scope of the junior class;

To represent the financial, professional and social interests of the BASW Club;

To update the BASW Club on any events, plans, or activities of the junior class; and,

To present to the BASW Club any information discussed and/or agreed upon at any junior class meeting.

Article III: Termination:

Section I

If any Officer’s or Representative’s position is vacated during their term, the BASW Club shall appoint a new Officer or Representative, except in the case of the presidency being vacated. In the latter event, the Vice president shall assume the presidency and the BASW Club shall appoint a new Vice president.

Section II

All BASW Club members must attend at least one (1) meeting or activity per month, each month in which one is scheduled or the automatic and immediate resignation of the individual will be effective.
