Biography

Stephanie Eckstrom earned her MSW from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and her BA in Social Work/Sociology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.  Her prior clinical interests include hospice and child/adolescent mental health in alternative settings.  She established and directed the first school-based partial hospitalization program for adolescents in a four district region.  Eckstrom has been the Pitt-Bradford MSW program coordinator since its inception, establishing and growing the satellite graduate program in the Twin Tiers region.  She teaches core foundation courses, upper level human behavior, and a human sexuality elective.  Eckstrom has also developed and teaches an elective on social work practice in rural communities.  She has served as an adjunct to the Pitt-Bradford Sociology program since 2001, teaching Death and Dying, Family, Sexuality, and Introduction to Social Work.

Eckstrom has served on various boards and committees focusing on strengthening communities and families.  Since 2004, she has actively served on the board of the Kane Area School District.  Her research interests include educational inequality, specifically the experience of primary education as intersected by race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability.
