Alicia Melnick earned an MSW and a certificate in Gerontology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009 and BA in Psychology from Mount Union College in 2006. During her time at Pitt she was a fellow in the second graduating cohort of the Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education.

Prior to working at the University of Pittsburgh Melnick was the Social Work Supervisor at UPMC Passavant Hospital. While at UPMC Passavant in addition to her management responsibilities she also worked clinically in the ICU setting and helped to develop an internal Crisis Incident and Stress Management (CISM) team. Prior to that position Melnick worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker with Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC. Melnick has also been a Field Instructor for the School of Social Work.  Alicia holds a clinical social work license in Pennsylvania and has provided clinical supervision.

Melnick’s research interests include the impact of stigma on the changing demographic of older adults and how this affects their access to care.
