SSW Aluna Anna Mae Lindberg, an Olympic swimmer who considered earning her social work degree from the University of Pittsburgh at the age of 60 "a bigger accomplishment than swimming in the Olympics," passed away on September 15th. A lifelong resident of Munhall and Homestead, she was 16 when she competed on the 1932 U.S. Olympic Team in Los Angeles. Mrs. Lindberg received a degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh on her 60th birthday and considered that a bigger accomplishment than swimming in the Olympics. She worked at Pitt as a secretary in the School of Social Work while getting her degree and spent two decades there, her daughter said. Read more about her life in the Tribune Review.
