New faculty member Darren Whitfield’s work is attracting attention

Assistant Professor Darren Whitfield joined the Pitt School of Social Work in 2016 after completing his PhD at the University of Denver. Dr. Whitfield has recently had two journal articles published: Grindr, Scruff, and on the Hunt: Predictors of Condomless Anal Sex, Internet Use, and Mobile Application Use Among Men Who Have Sex With Men  in the American Journal of Men’s Health and Stalking Victimization in LGBTQ Adults in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence. He is also scheduled to present at the 2017 National LGBTQ Health Conference on the associations of internalized homophobia and internalized racism in sexual risk taking practices of Black gay and bisexual men in the United States. His national study of 445 Black gay and bisexual men across the United States found that neither internalized racism nor internalized homophobia were associated with engaging in risk sexual behavior.
