Home & School Visitor Certificate Program hosted 2nd Annual Conference

On Friday, March 27th the Home & School Visitor Certificate Program hosted their 2nd Annual Conference, “Trauma in a School Setting”. The meeting objectives were to define trauma, explain how trauma may impact child/teen behavior and learning, & identify characteristics of trauma informed practices in a school setting. Professor Lynn Coghill, LCSW, gave welcome remarks, and Dr. Yodit Betru was the keynote speaker. Afternoon presenters were Dr. James Huguley, Research Associate at the University of Pittsburgh’s Center on Race and Social Problems and School of Social Work;  Denise Sedlacek, Assistant Superintendent, Baldwin Whitehall School district; Dr. Susan L. Tarasevich, Prevention-Education & SAP Services Addiction Medicine Services of Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic; and Dr. Virginia Hill, Principal, PPS Lincoln Elementary. While organizers planned for fifty attendees, there were sixty-five in attendance, mostly Home & School Visitors/School Social Workers. NASW Pennsylvania chapter provided a generous donation that paid for the continental breakfast.See more pictures on Flickr.
