DECEMBER GRADUATION – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is December Graduation?

A: December Graduation is a ceremony for students graduating after the Fall 2017 term in the School of Social Work. There will be a reception with light hors d’oeuvres followed by a ceremony structured like a typical commencement ceremony.

Q: When is December Graduation?

A: December Graduation will be on December 16, 2017 at 1:00pm. Please arrive by 1:00pm if you are a graduate.

Q: What will happen once I arrive?

A: The check-in and reception for students begins at 1:00pm. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Seating for the ceremony will begin after the reception and the ceremony will being promptly at 2:00pm.

Q: Where is December Graduation?

A: The ticket check-in and reception for graduation will be hosted in the Kurtzman Room of the William Pitt Union. The address of the William Pitt Union is 3959 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Once at the William Pitt Union, there will be signs to direct you to the Kurtzman room. The ceremony will take place in the Assembly Room which is adjacent to the Kurtzman Room.

Q: Where can I park?

A: Paid parking is available on-street or in the Soldiers and Sailors Parking Garage which is located one block away at 4101 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Handicap parking spaces are available directly across from the William Pitt Union on Bigelow Boulevard. Please contact us if you have additional accessibility needs.

Q: What is the dress code?

A: There is no mandatory dress code, but the recommended attire is business casual. No jeans, please.

Q: Will there be a photographer?

A: There will be two photographers at the event. Photos will be made available to access digitally after the ceremony and you may purchase prints from the photographer’s website.

Q: Will graduates be wearing caps and gowns?

A: Graduates have the option to purchase a cap, gown, hood, and tassel. Purchase of regalia is OPTIONAL and graduates are welcome to wear business attire. Graduates interested in purchasing regalia should:

o Complete set (cap, gown, hood, tassel): $57

o Cap & Gown: $31

o Hood: $26

o Tassel: around $5

Q: What if I want to be hooded at the ceremony?

A: If you chose to purchase a hood, please bring it to the ceremony. You will be hooded on stage.

Q: Is there a practice? How do I know what to do?

A: SEC will be facilitating a basic graduation practice. Details on time and location to follow.

Q: What if I requested tickets from the waitlist?

A: You will be notified if you have received waitlisted tickets beginning November 6, 2017. These tickets will be activated on a first come first serve basis as seats become available. Once notified, you will have 48 hours to claim your tickets or we will release them to the next graduate on the list.
