Academic Programs - BASW

BASW Degree Requirements

Admission to the Social Work Major Requires a Student Must:

Complete 60 transferable credits from an undergraduate institution and/or an associate degree program.
Demonstrate the capacity for successful work at the undergraduate level, with a minimum of 2.00 QPA on a 4.0 scale (students with a QPA below 2.00 may apply to be considered for admission on provisional status). Credits awarded from the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) by the College of General Studies are acceptable for inclusion in the 60 credits.

A minimum of 120 credits is required for graduation from the BASW major. To graduate from the BASW Program, a student must:
Complete Social and Behavioral Science Courses—24 credits required. * Students must take one course in each of the following areas and must select one of the areas for a concentration of a minimum of 12 credits:

  • Anthropology
  • Psychology
  • Economics
  • Sociology
  • Political Science

Other Course Requirements*

  • Africana Studies 3 crs.
  • English Composition 3 crs.
  • Human Biology 3 crs.
  • Statistics 3 crs.

Successfully complete all 48 credits of required BASW social work courses including field practicum.

Students are able to select from the following areas of concentration:

  • African Studies
  • Psychology
  • Anthropology
  • Sociology
  • Economics
  • Urban Studies
  • Global Studies
  • Women Studies
  • Political science

*Some or all of the above courses may have been taken as part of the 60 credits required for admission.
