High-quality multidisciplinary applied research is at the core of CRSP, the only race-related research center housed in a school of social work. CRSP gives University of Pittsburgh social scientists both an identity and a location for research and training on racial topics, in addition to helping researchers develop projects and gain external funding for them.
Faculty associated with CRSP conduct basic and applied studies, quantitative and qualitative data collection, and primary and secondary data analysis. Faculty are encouraged to develop real-world solutions to problems in the following areas:
- Economic disparities
- Educational disparities
- Interracial group relations
- Mental health
- Youth, families, and the elderly
- Criminal justice and substance abuse
Three CRSP research advisory panels (RAPs) bring together faculty members with similar interests to work individually or in groups to develop new research initiatives.
